46203 "Princess Margaret Rose" passes Selside on the 2nd January 1995. It was on a late running Derby to Carlisle train. Because it was running so late it had to be terminated at Appleby.

48151 makes one of it's periodic forays round the Cumbrian Coast on 6th June 1992. It's seen crossing the superb Levens Viaduct near Ulverston.

70000 "Britannia" heads south over Arten Gill Viaduct with a CME. 7/9/91.

71000 "Duke of Gloucester" passes Settle Junction on 20th July 1991 with a southbound CME.

60800 is seen in wonderful low winter light, at Nappa, south of Hellifield, with a Preston to Carlisle charter on the 29th December 1999

We've not seen much of 45110 on the main line and one of the only tours it's run was on the 28th November 1998, when it was seen at Meal Bank, north of Kendal on the WCML, in company with 45407 on "The Lakes Express" to Carlisle.

60800 "Green Arrow" passes Saltaire on the 20th October 1998 with a private charter from Huddersfield to Carlisle. This location, at the time already a little overgrown, has since been ruined by the erection of the ubiquitous palisade fencing

60532 "Blue Peter" is pictured "horse and cart" at Skipton. It was running up to Hellifield to take over it's first main line train since restoration. Of course by the time it got to the S & C it was gloomy and pouring down with rain! 7th March 1992

Atmosphere aplenty as 34027 "Taw Valley" heads south with a CME at Newbiggin on the 5th March 1994.

71000 "Duke of Gloucester" passes Plumpton Junction on the 26th October 1996 with a "Cumbrian Coast Express" to Sellafield.

After a hectic chase round the Cumbrian Coast, I caught up with 71000 at Ravenglass, on the 26th October 1996. Having detrained some of it's passengers it is pictured just leaving for Sellafield.

Stanier "Mogul" 2968 passes Pleasington Golf Course with the "Christmas Cumbrian Mountain Pullman" on the 21st December 1996

45596 "Bahamas" crosses Ais Gill Viaduct on the 14th July 1990, with a southbound CME. This day was unusual in that both north and southbound legs of the CME were steam-hauled over the S & C.

75014 and 70000 "Britannia" at Newbiggin with "The Final 15 Guinea Special". 31st March 1995.

75014 pilots 70000 "Britannia" near Ais Gill Summit on the 31st March 1995. They were on "The Final Curtain" commemorating the end of the BR Special Trains Unit. The train ran from Carlisle to Liverpool and 75014 was discovered to have a broken cotter pin shortly after I took this photo. "Britannia" then essentially pushed 75014 all the way to Liverpool!

45407 passes Sowerby Bridge with a Heywood to Wakefield test run on the 8th September 1998.

6024 "King Edward I" was making heavy weather of the climb to Blea Moor on the 28th March 1998. It had stopped for at least two "blow-ups" prior to this shot at Selside and we were beginning to wonder if it was going to make it.

80079 and 80080 were paired for a Paignton to Exeter special on 2nd May 1994. Here they pass Cockwood Harbour in the early evening.

5305 and 71000 emerge from Geldholt Tunnel, Huddersfield on the 23rd April 1992 with a positioning special.

45596 "Bahamas" coasts off Ribblehead Viaduct with a Carlisle to Oxenhope train. The less said about the coaching stock the better! 4th October 1992.

48773 & 45407 head up the S & C near Horton-in-Ribblesdale on the 24th April 1999.

I don't normally do tender-first shots, but I include this because of the railway infrastructure surrounding 48151 at Plumpton Junction on the 6th June 1992. Just about everything in the shot has gone; the box and sidings in particular. The Hoad Monument above Ulverston still surveys the scene to this day however.

46229 "Duchess of Hamilton" passes Selside in a heavy snow shower on the 27th February 1993. Until five minutes earlier we'd been enjoying glorious sunshine!

46441 passes through Grindleford with the return "Hope Valley Centenarian" from Sheffield to Manchester Victoria. 26th June 1994. I refrain from comment about the loco livery and the coaches!

71000 "Duke of Gloucester" nears Ais Gill Summit on the 30th July 1994. It was far too warm for anything other than a light exhaust to show.

60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" at Docker on the 30th September 1995. This was the first day of the "Shap Time Trials" which also featured 46229 and 71000. Can anyone remember which one won?

71000 "Duke of Gloucester" passes Selside with a CME on the very warm, 30th July 1994.

B1, 1264 and 8F, 48151 wait to leave Hellifield on the 8th June 1999. The occasion was the first test run of 1264, which had just been restored to main line condition after many years work. 48151 was included for "insurance", but in the end everything went OK and it wasn't needed.

60009 "Union of South Africa" is at Lunds on the 2nd May 1992 with a northbound "Cumbrian Mountain Express".

SR S15 828 nears Horton-in-Ribblesdale on the 30th April 1994 with one of it's only two trains over the S & C. Apparently it performed really well. I wonder if we'll ever see it on the S & C again?
