70000 "Britannia" passes Pleasington Golf Course with a northbound CME. 1/3/97. The train only got as far as Hellifield on this occasion, however, as it failed with a leaking boiler tube. If memory serves this was the last-ever run of Britannia on the mainline.

5029 "Nunney Castle" coasts away from Hellifield prior to attacking the Long Drag on the 12th February 1994.

6024 "King Edward I" opens up after coming off the speed restriction over Ribblehead Viaduct on the 14th March 1998. This southbound run was less troubled than the Nortbound run the previous week, when 6024 had to stop several times for a "blow-up". The problem was said to be the wrong type of coal, but is it just that ex-GWR engines and the Northern Fells don't mix?!

I didn't get many photos of 46229 "Duchess of Hamilton" in sun - it always seemed to elude me. The location eluded me here too, because the bridge at Mossley which I was intending to stand on was oversubscribed! Instead I ended up in the valley bottom below and this might have actually made a better picture. 46229 was on a Preston to York special on 30th March 1996.

46229 "Duchess of Hamilton" passes Skipton on the 17th April 1993 with a northbound CME (despite the Royal Scot headboard).

5029 "Nunney Castle" north of Chesterfield with a Didcot to Bradford Forster Square train which was used to get 5029 north for it to do battle with the S & C. 9th February 1994.

60532 "Blue Peter" leaves Horton-in-Ribblesdale with a CME. 13/6/92. The northbound path which this train ran in, in the summer, wasn't exactly conducive for producing the best photographic results!

46203 "Princess Margaret Rose" coasts south through Langcliffe, near Settle with a CME on 22nd June 1991.

48151 crosses Ribblehead Viaduct heading south with the return "Anniversary Express" on the 12th July 1996.

SR S15 828 nears Horton-in-Ribblesdale on the 30th April 1994 with one of it's only two trains over the S & C. Apparently it performed really well. I wonder if we'll ever see it on the S & C again?

60009 "Union of South Africa" is at Lunds on the 2nd May 1992 with a northbound "Cumbrian Mountain Express".

4472 "Flying Scotsman" was at the head of the "Preston Guild" charter when seen passing Birkett Common on the evening of 16th May 1992.

45596 "Bahamas" roars through Kildwick & Steeton on the 14th July 1990, with a southbound CME.

48151 heads south over Long Marton Viaduct with the return "Anniversary Express" on the 12th July 1996.

1264 and 48151 head back down the S & C at Selside, after the former's test run, on the 8th June 1999.

B1, 1264 and 8F, 48151 wait to leave Hellifield on the 8th June 1999. The occasion was the first test run of 1264, which had just been restored to main line condition after many years work. 48151 was included for "insurance", but in the end everything went OK and it wasn't needed.

60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" at Docker on the 30th September 1995. This was the first day of the "Shap Time Trials" which also featured 46229 and 71000. Can anyone remember which one won?

45596 "Bahamas" coasts off Ribblehead Viaduct with a Carlisle to Oxenhope train. The less said about the coaching stock the better! 4th October 1992.

46441 passes through Grindleford with the return "Hope Valley Centenarian" from Sheffield to Manchester Victoria. 26th June 1994. I refrain from comment about the loco livery and the coaches!

2968 passes Pleasington with the "Mogul Mountaineer", 8th March 1997.

46229 "Duchess of Hamilton" passes Selside in a heavy snow shower on the 27th February 1993. Until five minutes earlier we'd been enjoying glorious sunshine!

6201 "Princess Elizabeth" climbs to Ais Gill Summit over Birkett Common on 27th March 1993.

I don't normally do tender-first shots, but I include this because of the railway infrastructure surrounding 48151 at Plumpton Junction on the 6th June 1992. Just about everything in the shot has gone; the box and sidings in particular. The Hoad Monument above Ulverston still surveys the scene to this day however.

6024 "King Edward I" was making heavy weather of the climb to Blea Moor on the 28th March 1998. It had stopped for at least two "blow-ups" prior to this shot at Selside and we were beginning to wonder if it was going to make it.
