| For the first couple of years of my mainline steam photographing career, I barely got beyond Hellifield. This was due to lack of funds and knowledge of all the great locations on the S & C (on which steam featured weekly). However, I eventually got my act together and not only photographed on the S & C, but other places also. I hope you enjoy the photos. |

5593 "Kolhapur" passes the Leeds and Liverpool canal, near Burscough Bridge on 14th September 1986. This was one of a series of trains from and to Manchester run in association with a Southport newspaper. These became an annual event for a few years in the eighties. Buy Print |
Superb glint as 4468 "Mallard" coasts through Bolton Percy on the 8th November 1986. The train was the "Peter Allen Pullman" from Marylebone to York and the reason for the "coasting" was the crew had nearly run out of coal! Buy Print |

Midland Compound No 1000 arrives at Hellifield on the 4th February 1983. This was the first weekend of two featuring this loco and "Leander" on the S & C. The northbound run left Hellifield extremely late, for reasons I can no longer remember. However this gave the assembled multitudes plenty of opportunity to photograph both 1000 and 5690 prior to departure. Buy Print |
